Work on designing the Pergola started at the end 2006 after a chance meeting between Woodway's owners and Guy Bagshaw. Guy, a frequent exhibitor at Chelsea and widely admired for his work, suggested the circular design.

Initial construction was carried out entirely off-site and in April 2007, work began on the installation.  Over 10 tons of oak was man-handled onto the site and over a period of two weeks the pergola emerged.

Now that the construction work is complete, planting can begin and over the course of the next few years, the pergola will be enhanced with a variety of climbing roses, wisteria and clematis to provide almost year-round colour

The circular Pergola at Woodway House is shown in the following slide show.  The pergola was designed and built by Guy Bagshaw and his colleagues at the English Garden Carpentry Company .  Their unique skills and attention to detail have created a truly original piece of garden sculpture.  Constructed entirely of European oak using traditional construction techniques, the pergola is 20m in diameter and over 2.5m high.  If the automated slide show doesn't start after a few seconds then click on the picture to start it.
